    There is no homework for section 1.6. Remember that you need to complete and turn in corresponding written work for at least one practice exam. Chapter 1 homework and the practice exam are due Friday, February 3.

    January 27, 2023 (Section 1.5)

    We covered Chapter 1 Section 1.5 on exponent rules. For these problems, there are many different ways to get to the same answer. As long as your work is correct, your method is valid.

    We picked up with inequalities and moved on to section 1.3 with special attention placed on fraction arithmetic. Remember, information on how to add/subtract/multiple/divide fractions is not included in the textbook. Refer to your class notes or other online resources if you need help.

    January 17, 2023 (Section 1.2)

    We covered chapter 1, section 1.2 in class. We didn't fully get to talking about inequalities other than the basic definitions, so we will pick up there next class. Here are some supplemental images that may help you conceptualize what we discussed.

    Opportunities for Extra Points

    Here is a summary of ways I've offered extra points for class (will be updated as necessary):

  • Office hour extra credit: Anyone who attended office hours before the Chapter 2 exam received extra credit.
  • Homework rewrites: You can redo any homework problems you get wrong (even if you ran out of tries on MathXL). If you do them correctly and submit the written work to me, you get full credit for that problem.
  • Typos: Anyone who finds typos on worksheets or solutions gets extra credit.
  • Classwork: Anyone who correctly completes the classwork (starting with CW4) during class or on their own and turns it in gets extra credit, provided that you did not miss class that day.
  • Check-in games: Those who win check-in games get extra credit.
  • Chapter 1 Exam rewrites: You may rewrite the problems you got wrong on the exam. If you do them correctly, you get back half of the points you missed.
  • Chapter 2 Exam rewrites: You may rewrite the problems you got wrong on the exam. If you do them correctly, you get back half of the points you missed.
  • Re-opening of old assignments over Spring Break: All homework and quizzes were re-opened for Spring Break to allow students to complete anything they missed
  • Chapters 3-4 Exam rewrites: You may rewrite the problems you got wrong on the exam. If you do them correctly, you get back half of the points you missed.
  • Chapters 5 Exam rewrites: You may rewrite the problems you got wrong on the exam. If you do them correctly, you get back half of the points you missed.
  • Classwork 16: Anyone who correctly completes Classwork 16 during class or on their own and turns it in gets extra credit.
  • Classwork 17: Anyone who correctly completes Classwork 17 during class or on their own and turns it in gets extra credit.
  • Sections 7.1-7.3 and 7.6 Homework: These homework assignments on MathXL are extra credit
